During our co-founder’s tenure at Sotheby’s over more than two decades Jo was responsible for bringing countless artists from across the world who had never before been offered in an international auction to London sales, creating for them new commercial opportunities and connections. She pioneered previously untried auction categories focussing on geographies east of Berlin to champion and sell art from countries once outside the traditional peripheries of the art market. Today we are witnessing the complete democratization of the art market, and the playing field is conceptually level, although still far from it in practice.
Acknowledging the global nature of the art market in our times, the unprecedented travel restrictions under the current pandemic, and taking into account our own client base, it is clear that the traditional model of a bricks and mortar art gallery in a fixed location, is no longer the optimum way to reach collectors and promote your work internationally. As a successful artist, you are always busy moving towards your next creative horizon or need space to get through your current creative block, but at the same time you’d like someone there to make sure your art is getting noticed in the right places.
We work with selected artists preferably on a mid to long term basis where we can join you in the journey, work out together through discussion what it is you need most at this time in your career, and put our resources and network to work for you, always adapting to the changing needs of the present.
With the use of digital media, we have a hybrid approach, we use our website, and social media presence on Instagram and Facebook to promote your work. We have our own virtual sales wall where we can offer works, and through editorial on our site and placing stories in other channels, we work to provide a platform for you to reach new audiences. At the same time, we also reach out to specific collectors on a one-to-one basis directly to ensure your work is getting noticed among our collector community. We aim to increase your visibility in the centre of the art world, periodically examine your sales channels and advise and support accordingly to grow your profile.
In addition, we are here to support you in practical ways to free you up to spend more time in the studio creating art or on the road gathering material and inspiration for your next project. We will help with day-to-day studio management, correspondence with museums, galleries, art fairs and auction houses; assist you in logistics and work on specific exhibition projects where you need extra help.
As your career grows and you build your oeuvre, it is important to keep track of all your works in a systematic way to future-proof your legacy. We can join you on this journey, make an assessment of your current practice and look at how we can improve and standardise the ways you keep record of all the works you create. If you are an established artist, who is interested in starting a catalogue raisonne, it is never too late to do this and we can look at the ways to help you achieve this goal as well as assist you in tracking down works.
